He Was A Cowboy

Roosevelt entered politics immediately after college. Because of his self-discipline and dedication to work, in just a few years, he roared through the political scene of the state of New York. But, as it always happens, great happiness is spoiled by great misfortune.

On the same day, Theodore Roosevelt lost his mother and wife, both of whom died on February 14, 1884. Completely devastated by these events, Roosevelt left the state of New York and headed west. He went to North Dakota, fell in love with a nomadic lifestyle and decided to stay there. He bought a ranch on the banks of the Little Missouri River and started raising cattle. He quickly learned to use a lasso and ride like other cowboys.

His life entered a calmer course, at least for a while. Because of his education and the great love he had for literature from an early age, Roosevelt soon began writing articles for national newspapers about life in the wild. In addition to newspaper articles, he has written several books on the subject.

A World Traveler

After his second term in the presidency, Roosevelt relented to his restless spirit. He went on a big safari, in order to collect as many copies as possible for natural history museums in the United States. Paradoxically with his efforts to protect wildlife in his country, Roosevelt’s expedition reportedly killed more than 11,000 wildlife in Africa! A very sad fact.

After the safari in Africa, Roosevelt went to South America with his chosen companions – more precisely to the Amazon. His research drive again did not give him peace and according to his claims during this expedition, he and his team traveled and mapped a thousand kilometers of a completely unknown river.
